The Case of the Missing Unicorn

By Christoper Herbeck

Those familiar with the New Orleans and Baton Rouge House/Dubstep dance scene may already be familiar with the unusual case of the missing unicorn, but for those who aren't, here's the scoop. At a nightclub nearby, it is likely that you might have witnessed a stuffed plush unicorn getting molested on the dance floor. Incidentally, a few months ago this unicornwent missing much to the dismay of its keeper, Unicorn Fukr. No Def correspondent, Chris Herbeck, goes deep in the underground to interview Baton Rouge based DJ, Unicorn Fukr about his missing creature.  Get the Scoop>

Chris Herbeck: Where and when was the last time you saw the unicorn?

Unicorn Fukr: I was playing a gig at The Maison with Lazer Sword, Mux Mool and Gladkill on Frenchmen St on March 19th. The unicorn was brought to all
my gigs. By the time I was done playing the unicorn was nowhere to be found.

CH: Is the unicorn a male or female?

UF: Not really sure... it has a hole and a horn.

CH: Are there are leads on who could’ve taken him/her?

UF: We believe it was a audience member which consisted primarily of
Tulane and Loyola college students.

CH: How and when did you acquire the unicorn?

UF: It was given to me at another gig about a year and a half ago by a
good friend who came across it on a road trip from Portland Oregon.

CH: Did the unicorn come before or after your DJ name, Unicorn Fukr?

UF: The unicorn was given to me because my DJ name is Unicorn Fukr... so
the name came first.

CH: At what point will you give up searching for the unicorn?

UF: Our plan right now is to keep up the search for one year. If the
unicorn is not found within the next year we will have a dance party to
celebrate the memory of the unicorn next March.

CH: Can’t you just replace the unicorn with another one?

UF: Maybe one day... but this unicorn has travelled all around the Gulf Coast with me to gigs and has become quite the popular party phenomenon in the electronic dance music community. There are so many pictures that will prevent people from ever running for public office because of this unicorn. You can't just replace a unicorn like that that was loved by so many.

CH: If you would like like to make a public plea to the person responsible
for kidnapping your unicorn, feel free to do so now.

UF: First, I fully understand your reasons behind kidnapping the unicorn.
Unicorns are extremely attractive and fun to be around. Hell, its a giant
stuffed unicorn, who wouldn't want one of those. But you must realize that
you are denying an entire community of party goers across the gulf coast
the delight of partying, taking pictures and doing other unmentionable
things with this unicorn. Please, for the sake of party goers and unicorn
enthusiasts alike, bring that unicorn back to us.

Second, do you have any idea how gross that thing is? Do you know how many
dance floors that thing has been grinded on? Not to mention the weird
things that have happened to it at after parties. You sure you want to keep
it where you live?

Third, what the hell you freaking thief!? Give me back my damn unicorn and
stop stealing things!

More information about the Unicorn can be found here.

Unicornfukr will be playing, sans unicorn Sunday, May 16
for the Funky Brunch (11 am to 5 pm) at the Dragon's Den in New Orleans and
on Saturday, May 22 is BOOMBOX (9 pm to 5 am) at the Dragon's Den.
