The uncertainty and nastyass-ness of the campaign has now moved to the cold, hard reality of the vote tally. The results of yesterday's elections are in. After Republican slugfests on the statewide ballot, there will be little change coming to Baton Rogue in January. In local races, vacancies and redistricting meant we would have to bid farewell to old faces. Read how it all panned out after the jump.

Statewide

incumbents running for the state's top three posts cruised to victory and all avoided a runoff. As expected, Bobby Jindal crusied to victory, as he faced nine opponents - none of which had major party backing. Thanks to the D in front of her name, Tara Hollis managed to siphon off 17 percent of the vote, but the race for governor was too much of a foregone conclusion for her to get much further. The competition was among Republicans for Secretary of State and Lieuteant Governor, but incumbents won in both of those races. Jay Dardenne beat back a ferocious challenge from Plaquemines Parish prez and Big Oozy bellyacher Billy Nungesser, while Tom Schedler held onto his seat as the state's Keeper of the Seal by defeating now-former Speaker of the House, Jim Tucker.

State Legislature

The redistricting-caused races saw J.P. Morrell oust Cynthia Willard-Lewis to represent eastern New Orleans, and parts of St. Bernard and Jefferson Parishes in the 3rd Senate District, while, out toward Lakeview-Metairie, Nick Lorusso vanquished poor-people-steriliziation advocate, John LaBruzzo for a House of Representatives seat. Uptown, Neil Abramson fended off businessman Fenn French's plot to bring the House under even more Republican control. Across the river in Algiers, Jeff Arnold soundly beat challenger Carlos Williams, and lined up a probable run for Speaker.

BESE

The state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education contests were hotly watched around New Orleans, with the Recovery School District's future thought to be hanging in the balance. Jim Garvey held onto his seat, and will continue to represent Lakeview, Uptown, Metairie and most of St. Tammany. In District 2, which covers the rest of Orleans, incumbent Louella Givens faced a stiff challenge from local Teach for America director Kira Orange Jones, and the pair now have a date for a runoff.

Judges

The Orleans Parish judge races drew some of the most fraught campaigns, and easily the most signage around town. Some were rewarded for their trench warfare, while others paid the price. Regina Bartholomew handily defeated Ellen Hazeur for a seat on Civil District Court. In the three-way race for another seat, Chris Kiefer was unable to break through despite a series of attacks on opponent Nakisha Ervin-Knott and aggressive campaigning. Ervin-Knott and Clare Jupiter - who was no stranger to neutral grounds yesterday - will now face off in a runoff. For a criminal district court vacancy, it was endorsement machine Franz Zibilich who gained a seat, while a vacancy on Traffic Court will be helmed by longtime Civil District Court judge, Herbert Cade.

Runoff elections are scheduled for November 19.
