With EWE seemingly stuck with his felony conviction for this year's cycle, Bobby Jindal appeared to be breezing through to an easy election night, and an extended stay at the big house in Red Stick. But a poll released today indicates one of Jindal's old opponents might smell blood in the water. Jefferson Parish businessman (yet one-time New Orleans mayoral candidate), John Georges, was shown beating Jindal by one point in one section of a survey conducted by state pollster, Verne Kennedy.

In the survey, which quizzed 600 people on their political sentiments and opinions about candidates for governor and lieutenant governor, Georges came out ahead of Jindal, 40-39%, after participants were given biographical and campaign information about John Georges.

Participants were told Georges built a billion dollar grocery business called Imperial Trading and created thousands of jobs. They were also told about his plans to cut income taxes for seniors, and his service on the state Board of Higher Education.

Kennedy said he worked with Georges to develop the language for the text. Contacted Tuesday night, he said he was surprised by the results.

"We did not expect to produce the results where he was ahead of Jindal," Kennedy said.

In another portion of the poll where no information was supplied about Georges, Jindal came out ahead, scoring 61 percentage points to Georges' 31.

A similar poll that tested state Sen. Rob Marionneaux's chances against Jindal. Kennedy said he was skeptical of that poll when it first came out.

"Candidly, I wasn't sure how accurate it was," Kennedy said.

On Tuesday, Georges told the website Bayou Buzz he is strongly considering running, and will decide within the next two days. Georges ran against Jindal as an independent in 2007.
