The St. Roch Market (2381 Saint Claude Avenue) has elicited a host of opinions and reaction since reopening. Some residents love it and others have labeled the establishment a “yuppie food court.” And, then there are the six people captured on camera trashing the new joint.
NOPD PIO Franks Robertson says that on Friday (5.01) two men and two women dressed in black and wearing masks approached the building at 2:21a.m. carrying buckets of pink paint and “squirt guns.” Police say that the malcontents proceeded to vandalize the building causing over $20,000 in damages.
The Fifth District Investigative Unit quickly opened an investigation and released surveillance footage (below). On the video one can see an efficient division of labor. Some of the suspects are visibly squirting pink paint on the building while others tag the facade with spray paint. After the colors, one of the masked people takes a hammer to the windows.
The new film also reveals that the building was not empty at the time of the attack. A man dressed like a chef can be seen exiting to inspect the damage, making phone calls, and talking to police. The NOPD was also very efficient. Officers arrived just minutes after the suspects ran off.
But watch it all for yourself.
